As we move into 2025, sustainability is taking center stage at trade shows worldwide. Event organizers are adopting innovative practices to minimize environmental impact and promote eco-consciousness. The Events Industry Council defines event sustainability as actions that preserve the natural environment, promote a healthy society, and support a thriving economy.

One notable example is EarthX, a global environmental expo held in Dallas. The event emphasizes sustainability by reusing and upcycling materials, offering sustainable food options, and collaborating with organizations like Hunger Busters to reduce food waste. Peter Simek, conference director of EarthX, highlights the importance of being mindful of the event's impact and following best practices for sustainable conferences.

Similarly, the Greenbuild International Conference and Expo focuses on green building solutions and tracks its energy, water, waste, and carbon footprint. Katie Gillham, brand director for Greenbuild, explains that the event partners with local organizations to increase positive impact year after year. Greenbuild also provides sustainability tours of the host venue to showcase practices like waste sorting and water reuse systems.

These initiatives reflect a growing commitment to sustainability in the trade show industry, setting a precedent for future events.
