A new report from His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services (HMICFRS) has raised concerns about how public safety is managed at events across the UK. The inspectorate is calling for the government to conduct a wider review of the current arrangements.

The report highlights differences in how Safety Advisory Groups (SAGs) operate across the country. It also points to gaps in legislation, guidance, training and coordination between police forces, local authorities and event organisers. These challenges can make it difficult to establish consistent safety procedures for festivals, cultural events and other large public gatherings.

HMICFRS has made 36 recommendations aimed at improving collaboration and creating clearer responsibilities. Proposed measures include stronger training, improved guidance for handling critical incidents, clearer funding arrangements and a national approach to assessing event risks.

For event organisers, the report reinforces the importance of effective planning and communication with attendees. Managing large guest lists is another important part of event preparation. Organisers can How to Send Bulk calendar invite or How to Send Bulk calendar invites campaigns efficiently, use a Mass calendar invite approach for large audiences, and manage Mass calendar invites when communicating event details to many attendees.
