The U.S. business-to-business (B2B) exhibition industry demonstrated ongoing recovery in the fourth quarter of 2024, according to the latest CEIR Index Report. The CEIR Total Index, which measures overall exhibition performance, registered 8.0% below the same period in 2019, marking a substantial improvement compared to previous years.
Among the four components of the Total Index, the Exhibitors metric showed the strongest rebound, being just 3.7% below Q4 2019 levels. Net Square Feet (NSF) followed with a 5.0% decline, while Attendees and Real Revenues lagged behind, with decreases of 10.2% and 13.4%, respectively. Notably, despite nominal revenue being 3.7% higher than in 2019, inflation-adjusted real revenues still trailed by 13.4%.
The cancellation rate for in-person events remained low at 1.4%, consistent with the previous quarter and significantly improved from the 14.8% observed in Q4 2021. This resilience underscores the enduring importance of exhibitions to company performance.
Looking ahead, the U.S. economy is projected to continue its modest growth, supported by a strong labor market and easing financial conditions. These factors are expected to provide a favorable context for the exhibition industry's ongoing recovery.
